Students discuss value of pausing curriculum for current events

After Russia invaded Ukraine in February, many social studies teachers paused the required curriculum to discuss the political conflict. Students began discussing the value and effectiveness of learning about world events in class.

On March 23, teachers had a half day of professional development devoted to improving overall wellness and developing a more connected Staples community.

Students around Staples have been helping to raise awareness surrounding the war in Ukraine and have personally been involved in contributing donations. Tamar Rottem ’23 has created pamphlets with QR codes to websites that facilitate donations towards Ukraine and has dropped them in mailboxes throughout Westport.
