NBC revives “The Office”

NBC revives “The Office”

By Alexandra Sprouls ’19

Michael Scott. Jim Halpert. Dwight Schrute. Pam Beesly. What do these names all have in common? They are all recognizable characters from the hit NBC television show, “The Office”, which will be airing a 2018-2019 season.

“One of my favorite shows of all time has to be ‘The Office,’” Joe Xiang ’19 said. “I love how funny it is and following the stories of the characters throughout the series.”

The new season will feature a mix of old and new characters. Most actors will be returning with the exception of Steve Carell, who played the main character, Michael Scott, for seven of the show’s nine seasons.

“Michael was one of the funniest characters, if not the funniest character, on the show,” Logan Varsano ’19 said. “Honestly, the show got worse when he left.”

The new episodes will take place at the paper company, Dunder Mifflin, located in Scranton, Pennsylvania, similar to the setting of the original series.

The revival comes after the network aired a new season of “Will and Grace” which has received positive reviews. Television shows such as “Gilmore Girls” and “Full House” have had continuations as well.
“I love how so many shows are now coming out with new seasons and finding out where the characters ended up later in life. I find it so interesting,” Carlie Darefsky ’17 said.

The original series of “The Office” received numerous awards including ones from the Emmys and the Golden Globes.

“I’m excited to see what they do with the continuation but why risk ruining it when the show ended on such a good note,” Oskar Ekeberg ’20 said.
