What are students doing over the summer?

Rachel Chernok ’10 and Caroline Goldstein ’10

Even though there is still snow on the ground, summer is only a few months away.  Whether its relaxing at compo, or traveling the globe, now is the time of year when students decide their plans for the summer.

Freshmen and sophomores are still at the crossroads between camp and new adventures. Freshmen Nick Yu is planning on going to camp and hanging out with friends.  Fellow freshmen Avery Suter is also planning on hanging with his friends at the beach.  While others are using their summer to relax, freshmen Margi Goltz is doing a community service program in Costa Rica. Sophomore, Jeff Kasanoff is planning on honing his creative skill at art camps.

The summer before senior year is a time to build résumés and job experience. Hillary Campbell ’10 is working at the Saugatuck Harbor Yacht Club, while Jack Ambrose ’10 will be caddying at the Patterson Club.  Jack also plans to soak up the sun at his beach house in Rhode Island.

Seniors are using the summer to prepare for college and reminisce on their high school experiences. Kay Honda ’09 is going on a trip to Europe with her friends as a graduation present from her parents. However, some people are spending their last summer at home. Diane Devito ’09 is relaxing at home, hanging out with high school friends and preparing for college. Similar to Devito, Shakira Soderstom is working as a camp counselor at Mahackeno.

Even though summer may seem light years away, or already occurring for second semester seniors, Staples students are looking forward to their summers.
