On November 15 2010 Staples High School students where entertained by the dance group Thula Sizwe. These men, traveling from South Africa, taught the Staples community a little about their culture and where they are from. Accompanying them was singer/entrepreneur John Ferral who developed the organization “Bridges of Hope”. With the help of his explanation the students and faculty of Staples were able to further understand what the dances meant and the story behind each of them. Using drums and a Capella singing the group created a sound that was unfamiliar to the Western world. Talking to students after the performance there where mixed feelings as to what the message was but all agreed that the dancers were great, showing extreme passion for what they do. Touring the United States Thula Sizwe and John Ferral visit other schools around the country teaching them the differences of our cultures helping the population gain better understanding for what goes on outside our borders.
