Senior Girls ’14: One Big, Not so Happy Family

Senior Girls 14: One Big, Not so Happy Family

It can’t be that hard for 218 Senior Girls to reach one decision, right? Right?

Wrong.

My Facebook notifications went through the roof. My homework went out the window. It was all anyone could talk about. All senior girls seemed to be consumed by one thing—Controversy.

This heated debate started the week before spirit week, and got so intense that most of the senior class has dubbed it “WWXIV”. The twin day themes bounced from “Where’s Waldo” all the way to “Toddlers and Tiaras.” Soon, insults were being hurled at one another faster than girls could even text each other about it, causing absolute mayhem.

“It’s like something out of Mean Girls”, stated Meredith Hood ‘14. Although no Facebook accounts have been hacked, and no cliché scenes from Mean Girls have repeated themselves in the SHS hallways, I can tell you with certainty that Hood would not have been very surprised if they had. With girls this serious about spirit week, anything could happen.

With each new poll created, the tension rose, the posts got a little more passive aggressive, and I personally could not tear my eyes away from this quality drama.

I think if we senior girls take away anything from this weeklong saga, it’s that we need a leader to help the decision-making burden. By no means do 218 girls sharing their opinions mean that a consensus has been made. This process would have been over and done with in a fraction of the time if someone came forward and picked one of the various ideas that dominated my news feed.

But hey, where’s the fun in that?

Dancing fourteen hours a week, six days a week, Lily Barsanti ’14 is determined to pursue what she loves.

Her father being a designer, the arts have always played a role in the lives of both her older brother, twin brother, and certainly her own path. Taking inspiration from her own experiences and the world around her, Barsanti finds dance to be the perfect outlet for her emotions.

“Dancing for a senior company is a rigorous schedule and a tiring commitment, but there is nothing more rewarding than doing what I love,” said Barsanti.

However, dance is not the only platform Barsanti makes a name for herself. Having a great passion for writing, Barsanti took her talents to Emerson College where she spent three weeks improving her journalistic eyes, ears, and brain. Leaving a better writer than she entered, Barsanti feels ready to take on any role in the Inklings world.

Between her dance and her writing, Barsanti is left with very little time to be a regular teenager. However, whether it be online shopping at ShopBop.com for the latest designer clothing, spending time with her friends, or cheering wildly at the Friday night football games, Barsanti always finds time for a social life. Barsanti’s balancing act combined with her love for life makes her a ball of energy.
