Circle of Care Hosts ONE Night of Inspiration: Staples Students and Community Members Raise Money, Music and Hope

On Nov. 4, members of the Fairfield County community gathered together at the Norwalk Concert Hall to help raise money and awareness for Circle of Care, a non-profit volunteer organization that works to support children with cancer and their families.

Founded in 2003, The Circle of Care is an independent organization that offers programs designed to provide families with the essentials needed during inpatient care, brighten the lives of sick children, and give financial as well as emotional support to families following a cancer diagnosis.

Significant contributions to the organization included a $7500 check from Hood Milk, as well as a collective several thousand from event attendees who donated money for items such as computers, hospital parking, and a thanksgiving holiday dinner for families that face the burden of hospitalization. Additional money was raised during the program’s live auction, which auctioned off a fender bass guitar and two hour recording studio time at Crushing Studio in Westport.

The event opened with a performance by the Staples Orphenians, and followed with Sami Schwaeber’12, Mike Ljungberg’12, and Charlotte Weber’12 performing “Stealing the Light” composed by Weber herself.  Other acts included Acoustic Wilton and the Westport Dance Center dancers.

Following the night’s festivities, Weber recalled the delight she felt on-stage singing her own lyrics in support for the cause.

“It felt so amazing to recite my own words and bring hope to these families through music,” Weber said, beaming. “Circle of Care does an amazing job of providing support in every aspect, nothing beats being apart of it.”

Circle of Care board member and event co-chair Susan Kobylinski expressed her gratitude for the time and talents that went into the event and proceeds made.

“It really goes to show how lucky we are, seeing hundreds of people here tonight from all over Fairfield County,” Kobylinski said. “I couldn’t have asked for tonight to have gone any other way.”

Kobylinski’s co-chair Deborah Murtaugh concurs.

“Tonight was a success. I thank everyone that participated for helping us fulfill this beautiful mission,” Murtaugh said.
