Some students have found relief for their certainty by having their questions answered by psychics. “I wanted to know what would happen in my future, and I really believed a lot of what [the psychic] said would be right,” said Eliza Duvall ’12 who recently visited the Psychic Tea Room in Norwalk for a palm reading.

George Eli, owner of Psychic Tea Room revealed information about Duvall’s past and future by reading her palm, a practice that has existed for thousands of years. He said that teens are popular among his clientele; he usually sees about three a week.

As customers enter into Eli’s Sono storefront they will be comforted by a warm and welcoming, living room-like environment with an Asian décor, furnished with tables, chairs and candles. The space also allows for privacy during readings with a curtain-enclosed area where readings take place.

Jaclyn, owner of Psychic Visions in Bridgeport, who wished for her last name to not be published, agreed with Eli that many teens are interested in looking into their futures with the help of psychics, and particularly in having their palms read.

“Palm readings are fitting for teenagers because they reveal more about yourself, like what career paths they will take, family situations, marriages, and number of children they will have,” said Jaclyn.

Jaclyn discovered her talent when she was five-years-old. Her mother was a psychic as well and led Jaclyn to give her first reading when she was seven after she began having dreams that indicated her special talent.

As opposed to recognizing his talent at a specific age, Eli explained that, “everyone has psychic abilities, but the difference is that I can read others because I practice it everyday by reading cards and palms.”

Both are able to look into their customers’ futures by deciphering the meaning of three major lines on one’s palm, the life line, love line, and career line, to tell clients things about their past life as well as what their future will reveal.

Eli promises accurate readings with his clients however he recognizes that with the quickening pace of change in the modern world clients should take this information “with a grain of salt.”

As well as palm readings, other types of psyche predictions are offered such as tarot card and psychic readings, which slightly differ in content and specificity.

Psychic readings are done without any objects such cards or person’s palm. However, Eli adds that psychic readings can be quite strenuous for the reader. He will only offer three psychic readings as a maximum each day. “They are literally draining for me,” said Eli.

However he says the infamous crystal ball that many associate with psychics give off energy. “We don’t really look into a crystal ball to see the future but any type of crystal, such as one hanging from a chandelier gives off energy,” said Eli.

Psychic readings reveal more in depth information about a person’s past. “Most people who ask for psychic readings are afraid to know the future,” said Jaclyn.

Yet many clients such as Duvall are fascinated with discovering information about their future. “I think if you are thinking about getting your palm read you should go for it because it’s really interesting, and it left me wanting to know more,” said Duvall. “Now I’m very curious to see if my soul mate is going to be eight or nine years older than me and if we’ll have three kids like the psychic said.”

While Jaclyn encourages all to have some type of psychic reading at some point in their lives, Eli believes that psychic readings are for two types of people: those who believe in the power of a psychic and those who are curious.

Elena Adams who also visited Psychic Tea Room stumbled upon the store by mere accident, but decided to have her palm read. “It looked like a cool place so my friend and I walked in to look at what was in the window,” said Adams. “So far none of what the psychic said has applied to me but it was along the lines of what I’ve planned for myself.”

As far as customer reactions, Eli says that it really is about fifty-fifty between those who are surprised versus scared. “Many don’t see what I say happening in their life but many come back when it happens and ask how I knew,” said Eli.
