- Mary Parmalee, Library Media specialist and voracious reader, talks about one of her favorite new books of the year. “Wednesday Wars”, written by Gary D. Schmidt tops her list. She explains, “its fabulous, I loved it.” The book revolves around Holling Hoodhood, a teenage boy who feels left out of his school because he is neither jewish or catholic. If you are checking out the book, expect a nice read and a coming of age story.
- “Happy Face”, written by Stephen Emond rounds out the list of books Roberts and Parmalee are excited about. What makes the book so enticing is its non-conservative appeal. It is technically a graphic novel, but doubles as a journal. At first glance, Roberts explains, “It’s really engaging, and I have never seen anything like it before.” This type of originality is something that is treasured in the literature world, as people are always looking for something new. “I think it is going to be a big hit, people are going to respond to it,” Roberts says.
