On Monday, September 26, the Staples Lady Wreckers defeated the Danbury Mad Hatters in three successive wins.

The first game began with a star-studded lineup of seniors Augustine Gradoux-Matt, Joosje Grevers, Kenzie Roof, Dani Kosinski and Anna Link. This lineup also included Anna Fiolek ’13 and Amelia Brackett ’14. After losing a few consecutive points, Gradoux-Matt hit a kill over the net, tying the game, followed by two aces served by Grevers. Link’s final ace won the game for the girls.

In the first seconds of the second game, Roof made a kill over the net, starting the game off with a bang. Kosinski tapped the ball over the net, making the score 5-6. In an intense play, Roof dove into out-of-bounds to revive the ball. Kosinski then made a kill to the back right corner of Danbury’s court. A long rally ended with Gradoux-Matt serving an ace to tie the game. Grevers’s kill ended the fluctuating scores by putting Staples up one, therefore winning the game.

Kosinski’s ace started the third game off with Staples in the lead. Brackett’s kill secured the lead, with a score of 4-2. Link aced a serve over the net, followed by Kosinski setting over for a point. Brackett hit another kill over the net, making the score 14-9. Pacilio’s ace led to Staples’s final victory over Danbury.

“At first, I was really nervous to be on varsity. Sometimes I feel a little intimidated because all of them are so good at playing volleyball, but I am having a really fun time being on the team,” said Brackett. “I am so shocked that the varsity team is at such a high level of game play. We just keep winning!”
