Mitt Romney: Constant Contender

This primary season has been extremely turbulent.  Michelle Bachmann, Herman Cain and Rick Perry have all soared to first place amid local and national polling only to collapse just weeks later.  This same phenomenon may be happening with Newt Gingrich right now.

As all of this has gone on, there has only been one constant in the Republican field: Mitt Romney

If the GOP wishes to mount a serious challenge to President Obama in November, it must nominate someone who can gather voters outside of its own base.  The religious right and conservative hardliners that often make up a significant portion of Republican primary voters are not enough to win a general election. While Mitt Romney’s seemingly moderate policies appear as a detriment in the primary season, in the general election they will prove much more attractive than the tough right wing stance taken by many of the other candidates.

Romney may not be everything that the GOP wants in a president, but his moderate policies make him the best choice to defeat President Obama.
