Westport to Expect a Rough Winter

Weather expert Jacob Meisel ’13 explained on his weather blog, “We have a wild winter that will be impacting the region this year.”

Meisel predicts that Westport will receive a total snow accumulation of 40-60 inches of snow this winter.

Though this winter will be a rough one, Meisel explains that this winter won’t be as bad as last winter.

“One difference from last year is that the pattern this year will lead to more, smaller snowfall events,” Meisel said. “This means that we will likely see many 3-6 inch or 4-8 inch snow storms, versus the large 12-20 inch storms that we saw last year. ”

However, Meisel clarifies that this doesn’t mean Westport won’t experience any big snow storms.

So despite Meisel’s predictions that this winter won’t be as bad as last winter, Westport should still expect a very cold, and very snowy winter.

Westporters can prepare for this coming winter in many ways. Citizens should make sure their cars and its tires are in good shape for safe driving.

For inside the home, stocking up on firewood, non-perishable foods, and working flashlights with extra batteries would be wise in preparation for any possible power-outages. Additionally, Kidsource.com strongly advised that citizens keep a first-aid kit in the house as well.

In terms of Staples’ preparation for this winter, Meisel says students and administration should expect about 4-5 snow days this school year.

“Even though we may not see as much snow as last year, I think we will see numerous disruptive storms, many of which could interrupt school,” Meisel said.
