UPDATE: According to CNN, the four journalists, including the Staples alumni, are currently being held by pro-government forces. The Libyan government has announced that they will be released.
Two Staples High School alumni, Tyler Hicks ’88 and Lynsey Addario ’91, both photojournalists for the New York Times, have been reported missing in Libya. According to the Times’ Media Decoder blog, the paper last contacted the journalists, who were reporting on the ongoing revolutions in Libya, on Tuesday morning, Eastern Standard Time. The blog also reported that Bill Keller, executive editor of the Times, was attempting to work with Libyan officials in Tripoli in order to locate the journalists.
Hicks, who graduated from Staples in 1988, holds a B.A. in journalism from Boston University. He, along with Addario and others from the New York Times, shared a 2009 Pulitzer Prize for international reporting. Addario, who graduated from Staples in 1991, holds a B.A. in international relations and Italian from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She is also the recipient of a 2010 MacArthur fellowship.
