Seniors will participate in first community service project

On Mar. 13, members of the class of 2011 will participate in the first senior service project, Staples Cares. Participants will travel to the homes of senior citizens to change clocks and install smoke detectors the morning of daylight savings. The project was spearheaded by Adam Yormark ‘11 and English teacher Daniel Geraghty.

“A real focal point of every visit is the conversation and the interaction between and among Staples Seniors and the senior citizens of Westport. The relationship between the high school participants and the senior citizens is something not usually seen in many communities,” Geraghty said.

The goal of Staples Cares is to cultivate an inter-generational connection in order to bring the Westport community closer together.

The class of 2011 will be the first senior class to participate in Staples Cares, but it is anticipated that the project will be continued in the succeeding years.

“I hope that every year, more people will participate and the project will grow,” Yormark said.

Students interested can sign up for the event by completing a form on the Staples Homepage or at https://sites.google.com/site/staplescares/.

Those participating should meet at the high school at 9 a.m.
