The Staples Varsity boys’ basketball team lost to Bassick High School on Friday evening by a score of 78-74. Staples now has a league record of 5-4 and an FCIAC record of 4-3.

Led by captains Luke Yeager ’11, Jake Felman ’11, and Gabe Seidman ’11, Staples put up a tough match against Bassick, maintaining a narrow lead throughout most of the game. The score was 32-30 Staples by the end of the first half. Both teams passed well and used the give-and-go tactic to work the ball on offense. Some faulty passes by Staples slowed them down, but their shooting was excellent.

In the second half, Staples really improved their passing and kept up their hot outside shooting. The Wreckers made great cuts to the basket and maneuvered around the Bassick defense with great dribbling. However, Bassick continued to put up a tough fight against Staples, eventually squeezing out victorious in the end with a few foul shots.

Now, Staples must put the loss behind them and prepare diligently for their upcoming game against Darien High School on Tuesday.
