Summer TV Show Preview

The warm weather isn’t the only things students have to rely on to keep them going until the end of the school year; popular TV shows are making their comebacks in addition to many promising new shows that are sure to pull in viewers.  Here are some that are worth watching:

Returning Shows:
Pretty Little Liars”: 6/5/12

Girls, get ready.  (And boys too, although some of you refuse to admit it.)  Pretty Little Liars makes its season premiere in almost a week, and it is sure to be just as thrilling as the previous season.  In the endless web of twists and complications, which there are even more of now thanks to last season, viewers are sure to be more frustrated, more antsy, and more excited than ever to figure out all the secrets.  Although it seems that just as plots will unfold and mysteries will be uncovered they just get even more confusing, face it—you love to hate the secrecy of it all.  Chances that viewers find out anything substantial that will prove helpful in uncovering the true story behind Allison DeLaurentis’ death? Little to none.  But chances this ABC Family show will be more captivating than ever? Absolutely.

“Royal Pains”: 6/6/12

While this show may not be quite as popular as “The Office,” or the recent hit “New Girl,” it is a show that is 100% worth watching. Although I’m sure that as soon as I mention it is a medical show, I will lose the attention of half the people reading this, bear with me.  The humorous show about two brothers working together in the Hamptons for their business, HankMed, is filled with extremely likeable and relatable characters.  There are the are the brotherly fights, the family issues, and of course, the near death experience of a client in almost every episode.  So tune into the USA Network on June 6, for the promising season premiere.

New Shows

“Snooki and Jwoww”: 6/21/12

For those who love Jersey Shore but are over the constant Ron & Sam drama, this show seems to be designed for you.  Perhaps the most surprising plot twist of this shows season occurred before the premiere even happened—Snookie got pregnant.  Now that this Jersey ‘meatball’ has a bun in the oven—which was seen coming by no one—Jwoww and Snooki’s last hurrah is an even bigger deal, it being their final chance to live the Jersey life so clearly demonstrated on MTV’s Jersey Shore.

“Duets”: 5/24/12

Although this show has already made its series premiere, it is sure to be one of the many singing shows that continues into the summer and serves as a good pastime.  The Voice, American Idol, America’s got Talent—Duets is joining a long list of classic shows that illustrate the talent of never before heard singers.  Yet it is sure to bring something new to the table, where the superstar judges actually get on stage to sing with the competitors.  Whether you’re watching to see someone famous mess up, or hoping to find a song to add to your summer play list, Duets is a new and original show starting just in time for summer.

Claire O'Halloran, Web A&E Editor
A team player on and off the field, even with a knee injury, Claire O’Halloran ’13 is ready to jump into another great year of Inklings. Before her Staples journalism journey, O’Halloran always liked writing and really enjoyed (reading) newspaper articles that were humorous and memorable to her. She took Intro to Journalism her freshman year, and found that she really enjoyed journalism, and now loves everything about Advanced and journalism in general. Besides journalism O’Halloran enjoys music and tennis and being a part of Staples’ varsity soccer team, but an injured Claire, someone who always likes being busy, is thankful for having Inklings and all of its’ busyness and action. As web A&E editor and veteran web Feature and Opinions editor its no surprise that O’Halloran is one of the web’s biggest fans. She is attracted to how it is a place for instant information and quick answers. “The web is the future,” she said. “It’s the way to go.” O’Halloran also appreciates that her stories can be seen by anyone, anytime, any place all around the world. Overall she is excited for her final year with Inklings “We have a huge staff with a lot of new talent and it’s going to be great.”
