Stepping into Maman in downtown Westport feels like wandering into a little slice of Paris. A soft light shines across patterned tiles, while the scent of butter and espresso wafts through the air with a bit of conversation.
The much-anticipated café, which recently opened on Church Lane, brings the charm of a New York bakery to Fairfield County, offering locals a new spot to talk over coffee, pastries, and beautiful decor.
I ended up going for a butter croissant and a matcha latte — simple, but honestly, the best way to tell if a place is good is by getting classic food.
What really makes Maman stand out, though, is the feeling it creates. Even though it’s brand new, the place already has that warmth. It’s easy to visit — there were people catching up with friends, someone reading by the window and a group of regulars who seemed to love their food. The staff are friendly without trying too hard, and there’s this feeling that everyone there is happy. It’s quickly becoming a place that feels naturally part of Westport. Sitting there with the morning light shining through the windows felt like a moment of pure happiness.
Maman is only steps from Main Street’s shops, making it an easy stop no matter what side of town you’re coming from. Westport already has a good amount of coffee spots — places like GG & Joe, The Granola Bar, and Jack’s Coffee have their loyal followings — but Maman brings a quieter vibe to Westport. Where some cafés buzz with conversation, Maman moves at a slower pace.
Whether you’re starting your morning with a croissant and matcha, catching up with a friend after a walk by the river, or just looking for a cozy place to unwind, Maman fits right in.
