“My bagel Jewish, my mayor Muslim, my Christian Dior, Knicks in four.”
This has been the phrase of the week in New York. It is literally everywhere. TikToks, Instagram comments, street interviews, random people yelling. The city was united.
Then Donald Trump showed up and the Knicks lost. I don’t care what ESPN says. I don’t care about missed shots or turnovers. I know the real reason the Knicks lost game three.
Trump.
First of all, people were being told to arrive two hours early because he was there. Two hours early for a basketball game is ridiculous. Knicks fans already have enough problems and now they have to plan their day around Secret Service?
The entire routine was thrown off. New Yorkers run on routine. You get food, go to your seat, complain about ticket prices and watch basketball. Instead everyone was standing in security lines for half the night.
Then they showed Trump on the jumbotron. People stopped paying attention to the man singing the National Anthem to boo their president.
So, to sum it up, it’s all Trump’s fault. Before Trump, the Knicks were up 2-0, the city was united, and the Knicks were going to win in four. After Trump, there was security everywhere, people had to arrive two hours early, there was an arena-wide booing session and the Knicks lost.
Am I saying Trump personally made the Knicks shoot worse? No. Am I saying his presence disrupted the natural balance of the New York City sports ecosystem? Absolutely.
The manifestations were working. The city was healing. The bagels were Jewish. The mayor was Muslim. The Christian was Dior. And, most importantly, the Knicks were in four. Now they’re not. Explain that.
