As temperatures drop, the Staples Orphenians prepared for their busiest time of the year: the holiday season. The Staples Orphenians are a singing group consisting of 48 people, which represent all different grade levels, directed under Staples’s chorus teacher Lauren Pine. This season the group geared up for late rehearsals in preparation for their multiple upcoming events. Out of all of them, James Donoghue ’28 was most excited for the Radio City Music Hall.
“It is pretty exciting and pretty big,” Donoghue ’28 said.
“I just love the community,” Jenna Guzam ’28 said.”It’s a very put together and close knit family.”
On Friday Dec. 12, the Orphenians made their Radio City Music Hall debut, performing before the Christmas Spectacular. The Radio City Music Hall sold around 6,000 tickets per show with almost all of them being sold out.
On Saturday Dec. 13, they also took to downtown to carol during the Holiday Stroll. They gave multiple performances, including on top of Brandy Melville’s roof, in front of Anthropologie and in the Bedford Square Courtyard to name a few. The Holiday Stroll offered photo opportunities with Santa, hot chocolate, fireside smores and extended shopping hours of favorite downtown stores. Many people bundled up and watched as the Orphenians sang holiday favorites while wearing festive holiday sweaters.
“I love all the fun caroling gigs that we get to do around town,” Isabella Mariani ’28 said.
They ended their season with Candlelight. This annual concert brings together the band, orchestra and choir to play beloved musical arrangements before the holiday break.
