Prep Zone addressed negative comments made on their livestreaming of the FCIAC boys high school championship basketball game. On Instagram, Prep Zone made a post and multiple stories stating they will not tolerate the “offensive, inappropriate and hateful” comments, and they will be bringing this issue to the authorities.
“We are taking this very seriously.” Prep Zone said in their post. “A full record of the comment section is being shared with the authorities.”
Prep Zone live streams many Staples games, making them easily accessible for the community. The community has the ability to comment during the livestream, but it is expected that comments must follow the FCIAC’s gameday decorum.
“There is no place for any derogatory or inappropriate comments in any venue or on any platform,” Athletic Director VJ Sarullo said. “High school sports are best when there is mutual respect and sportsmanship between all involved.”
The comments left on the livestream are believed to be sent by student accounts. These comments targeted both the girls’ and boys’ Wreckers basketball teams. Several anti-semetic remarks were made about a Jewish boys’ basketball player when he was up for a free throw.
In addition, several sexualizing comments were made about a West Hartford female student.
“(anonymous student name) she top ten baddies here,” one account commented.
Prep Zone turned off the chat multiple times throughout the game, but every time they turned it back on the inappropriate comments continued.
