Principal John Dodig opened the newly renovated Staples baseball field before the Varsity squad lost a close one to Wilton 3-1 on Monday.

The festivities were only slightly dampened by the team’s loss as fans, parents, and other members of the community celebrated the first renovation of the field in 34 years. Changes to the new stadium include redesigned dugouts, a completely restructured infield, a state-of-the-art drainage system (which is being put to the test so far this season), a rebuilt batting cage, and seating for upwards of 200 fans in the form of entirely new metallic bleachers.

This field is fitting for the defending FCIAC champions who are currently 8-3 in the league and just beat first place Ludlowe behind the strong pitching of junior David Speer ’10. The team certainly seems to be earning its donation from the team’s booster club and close to 100 different donors.

Thanks, Mike. I checked out the site and the scissors they feature are $175! They are “guaranteed” to cut the ribbon. Actually, now that I think about it, that’s an important guarantee. Imagine standing in front of a crowd hacking away at a ribbon that refuses to succomb to giant blades of steel. Where do the scissors live? Who owns them? Does Westport have one pair or is there a set? Can you run with these scissors?

After a brief google search, I have discovered that one can procure said scissors through none other than http://www.ribboncuttingscissors.com. You will see that their product is “hand-crafted to the exacting standards of the world’s finest scissors.” How does it get any better than that?

Two things: I would like to know more about the state-of-the art drainage system that the field uses. Inklings dod a noce job covering the new Yankee stadium; I want to know more about how you can make a field drain better. That sounds cool.

Secondly, I want those scissors. Where does onw get a ginormous pair of scissors like that?

    Well done! Go Staples Baseball.
