10 Essential Tracks

10+Essential+Tracks

Destined for those “top-down 70-and-sunny days” as well as the outdoor night parties, where grooving on the patio is second nature.

1. Sweet Honey – Slightly Stoopid

A fast-paced, catchy tune by this unique reggae-rock band. The two lead singers, one a fast-paced rapper and the other a harmonizer, complement each other perfectly. A song meant to be enjoyed on the waterfront.

2. Slow Down – Ciaran Carson

It is hard NOT to bump to this song while cruisin’ down the streets of Wepo. This is an absolute street banger, and the bass should get the boys bouncin’ to this one.

3. Escape – Rupert Holmes

“If you like Pina Colada’s, and getting caught in the rain…” Yes, that song.

4. Mr. Blue Sky – Electric Light Orchestra

A song for the sun. Nothing more, nothing less.

5. Sun is Shining – Bob Marley

Bob allows you to kick the legs up when “The weather is sweet, yeh.”

6. Sweet Nothing – Calvin Harris ft. Florence Welch

I couldn’t leave this sing-along out; it’s going to be one of the top 2013 summer jams.

7. Lovely Day – Bill Withers

The right song for the perfect sunny day, a great day-starter when the birds start chirping and the lawn mowers are your morning alarm.

8. Holes to Heaven – Jack Johnson

Jack Johnson is the grandfather of surfing music, and his voice nostalgically reminds me of the beach and the sun, as I write this in the bitter cold month of April.

9. Party in the U.S.A. – Miley Cyrus

This #1 hit from 2009 deserves a revival three years later. It’s still as catchy as ever, and when school is out ,this should be the celebratory anthem.

10. Margaritaville – Jimmy Buffett

This song goes hand in hand with a nice cool beverage in the summer sun. The sound is unique:ww a country voice to a Hawaiian-vibe hymn. It’s a hard ten.

Joe Greenwald
Joe Greenwald, Web Sports Editor
As a soccer player, dog-lover, gamer, volunteer, Latin Club president, and self-proclaimed jokester, Joe Greenwald ’13 is a jack-of-all-trades. And he can now add Web Sports Editor of Inklings to his repertoire. It was pure chance that Greenwald ended up in Inklings at all; a scheduling mishap threw him into the Journalism for Publication class last year. It was in that class, however, where he found his love for writing, and writing for an audience in particular. Greenwald is also a starting striker and co-captain of the boys’ soccer team, and carries his love of soccer to the virtual world in FIFA Soccer for Xbox. He has several intense rivalries with other Staples students, and his preferred team of usage is Spain’s Atletico Madrid. Outside of school and sports, Greenwald volunteers at the George Washington Carver Center in Norwalk, helping under-privileged kids with their schoolwork and acting as a mentor. “It is an incredibly humbling feeling,” Greenwald said of his experience at the Carver Center. “It’s moving to be able to help them; in a sense they’re giving back to me.” As well as his love for volunteering, Greenwald also has a love for none other than mashed potatoes. “I like a little gravy with my mashed potatoes,” he said. “Not a lot of gravy. But a little.”
