1. CHICKEN FRIES
Every Friday, chicken fries are available in the cafeteria and the student body is abuzz with excitement. Unfortunately, while the fries may taste delicious, they aren’t very nutritious. Chicken fries have virtually no redeeming qualities, save for a few grams of protein that are easy to get from other sources. They are loaded in saturated fats from the frying, and they have only refined carbohydrates. No fiber, no healthy fat. This is a highly caloric meal that will hold you over for a few hours at best.
2. ICEBERG LETTUCE, CRISPY CHICKEN, CHEESE AND RANCH DRESSING SALAD
This option is available all the time, and even though it’s a salad, the nutritional value of this meal is nothing to brag about. Iceberg lettuce, is virtually like eating air. For those who don’t know, it’s that white and light green crunch lettuce that contains no nutrients or fiber. The crispy chicken is cut up chicken fries. Period. Above rules apply. Cheese has some calcium and protein, but mostly just saturated fat. Ranch dressing is rich in partially hydrogenated oils, which often contain an even more dangerous form of fats– trans fats. This low nutrient, surprisingly high calorie lunch will do you no real good, despite the fact that it’s a salad.
3. PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY SANDWICH
Three pieces of white bread, which is refined grains, means you get the calories and none of the nutrients and satiating fiber. Peanut butter is filled with dangerous partially hydrogenated oils along with pure sugar (no real fruit!) Jelly make up this classic sandwich. The only thing this sandwich is packed with is calories.
