‘Make It Stop’: Great Song and Message

Make It Stop: Great Song and Message

The lead single off Rise Against’s new album, “Make It Stop (September’s Children)” is a song with an awesome rock beat, awesome lyrics, and an awesome meaning behind it.

The song is very catchy; I admit I had it stuck in my head for a couple days. It could be considered a head banging song; a definite rock song. The chorus is probably the catchiest part.

However, the lyrics are probably my favorite part of the song. “A number of events were the catalyst for the creation of Make It Stop,” the lead singer, Tim McIlrath said. “Everything from the suicide in September 2010, to our own fans voicing their fears and insecurities from time to time.”

The lyrics are meaningful, and even if you can’t relate to the suicides last year you can relate to these lyrics because everyone has felt bad about themselves or has been bullied at least once in their life.

But the song gives a positive attitude to the negatives of life. It’s definitely a song you don’t want to stop listening to.

Rise Against teamed up with the It Gets Better Project, an organization that reassures teens bullied because of their sexuality that everything will get better. During the song the band even gives shout outs to teens involved in the It Gets Better Project.

McIlrath really seems passionate about making a difference for bullied teens with his song. “I hope the synergy between the two can reach people and make a difference,” he said.

Overall, the song is really passionate about this cause; you could hear McIlrath really put thought into the lyrics. The song is very catchy and easy to get stuck in your head. To contradict the title of the song, you will never want it to stop and will always want to listen to this song.
