Chase Gornbien

Chase Gornbien, Assistant Business Manager

If one had to guess what fuels Chase Gorbien ’16’s career as an editor at Inklings and his penchant for writing, they would probably throw out all of the usual options: “He took a journalism class,” or, “He just likes English.”  Both  may be valid but there’s one way that Gorbein truly readies himself for the trials of Inklings and any other challenges ahead - running.
Gorbein has been racing down any course that cross country throws at him for years now (his coaches actually made him run as punishment in middle school). But to him, racing and running also serves as an accurate meter for success and a mold for how he can solve personal issues.

“There are many lessons to take away from track,” Gorbein said. “Mainly, if you really stick to it and push hard, you can definitely see success.”

Considering that, according to Gorbein, Staples’ Cross Country team is considered to be one of the best in the state as well as a prime candidate for any upcoming FCIAC championships, Gorbein’s philosophy could be very valid. But running does not distract him from school work. In fact, he asserts it actively helps him from straying from work. Despite this, his involvement in Inklings was a complete accident. “In all honesty, I signed up to journalism since there no other electives,” Gorbein said.

But Gorbein has become very invested in Inklings as his experience as both a staff writer and a business associate for the paper suggest. Gorbein believes that it is an incredible news source that should be heard throughout Westport. Whether he chooses to keep running tracks or dive further into Inklings, one thing is certain: he isn’t planning on stopping any time soon.
