Chase Emilio

Chase Emilio, Staff Writer

Chase Emilio ’16 has never stayed in one world long.

In fact, his preferred reality is a virtual one. Emilio spent his summer at the Ringling College in Sarasota, Fl., learning how to design video games.

“You can make an inexpensive video game with 20 people,” Emilio said. “And you can potentially make a masterpiece.”

He spent the entire summer doing multiple projects each week, with professors teaching him how to design textures and program characters.

He’s about to dive into a new world, taking all that his learned with him: journalism.

Emilio said the Ringling program is similar to journalism in that “it’s about the hustle and getting your info and meeting your deadlines.”

Just like designing his own virtual reality, he said the Advanced Journalism class is “a great outlet for creativity.”

“This school offers only a few creative writing classes,” he said. “And this is one of them.”
