The most populated area on campus, where students in Staples probably spend more time here then they do at home. But, this sometimes accumulates to a problem, in the Cafeteria.

It is probably the most intense place on school. The food-buying area may be the biggest stress, besides your AP World test last period. You enter through the new “turnstiles” and you probably already know, they do not do their job. It causes a problem big time. Being stuck behind a freshman with a backpack bigger then themselves makes you flustered before you buy your lunch.

So, you finally make it inside. You stand in the middle of the room looking for a good bagel, making it convenient for people to get around you. Or you wait in line for the infamous chicken fries. Forget getting a sandwich, if you’re in the caf by the end of passing time at most, the whole lunch period is standing in those wooden aisles. And let’s be honest here, are there even designated lines for ordering and picking up?

Now, you’re finally ready to check out but obviously the lines stretch to the wall. So find an empty spot in line or stand where ever there is a gap. However, the most common action is to cut. People are pushing and shoving, and it’s easy to lose your place in line and have to get into another one. You may even end up in a completely different mess of a line then when you started out.

And then, there are the people that must pay in cash. It takes them at least a solid minute for them to buy their food. When it takes just seconds to type in your number and get out.

Finally you are out of the mosh pit, and are ready to eat. By this time, most of the tables are already filled because you have spent half your lunch period attempting to get food. Now you are forced to sit on one of those small round attached stools with a friend. Ah, those tables; never enough seats with everyone calling “fives” to keep their seat for just a little bit longer.

The cafeteria is probably the hardest and most stressful part of a student’s day. And it certainly never stops. Usually around the end of each lunch with about five minutes left everyone disperses to the library in an attempt to escape from the stress filled environment of the lunchroom. However it is not until long a new rush of hungry students will go through the same process all over again.
