May 21, the day that seniors left for internships, was the cause for celebration among some juniors. Although roughly 70 juniors were awarded parking stickers throughout the year, the remaining licensed students were finally awarded stickers after the seniors left.
“The rules this year have changed slightly because senior internships are a relatively new thing,” said Assistant Principal Patrick Micinilio.
Stickers will be awarded to any juniors who seek them in the Assistant Principal’s office, as long as they bring their license, car registration, and $5 for the sticker. Additionally, students must pay for any of the tickets they have accumulated over this school year.
Sophomores looking for parking spots will have to wait their turn until next year’s lottery, as juniors have priority for the rest school year.
For seniors who have remained at Staples, this is a big change from the past few months.
“The parking situation when everyone was here was terrible because juniors parking in senior parking was annoying,” said Colleen McCarthy ’12, a senior who did not go on an internship, “Now there are so many open spots that it’s not a big deal.”
