On Oct. 17 the Westport Women’s League of Voters will be hosting an event called “My Town My Vote,” which will give Westport residents a chance to meet the candidates up for election this November.
From 12 p.m to 2 p.m, RTM candidates will be in various locations depending on the district they wish to represent. The list of locations can be accessed at http://lwvwestportct.org/MTMV-flyer.pdf. From 1 p.m to 3 p.m there will be a rally at Jesup Green where there will be live music, food and the candidates for various town offices.
“This event should be a lot of fun, because we hope to have a festival atmosphere, celebrating democracy,” said Lisa Shufro, coordinator of the event.
The music lineup includes staples students Robert Mathis ’10, Alan Southworth ’10, Dustin Lowman ’11, Danny Fishman ’11 and Ellen Kempner ’12.
“This event is important for students to attend because it will give them a really good idea of how democracy works at the most basic level; local,” Shufro said. “All candidates for town-wide office are invited to attend the Jesup Green rally, and will be available to talk to Westport residents.”
