Staples Boys’ Soccer beat Norwalk at 4:00 pm last Thursday on the Loeffler Field. The final score was 2-0, with Staples never losing their leading position and the two goals were scored by Charlie Leonard ’14 and captain Jack Scott ’14.

Leonard shot with 31 minutes left of the first half, setting the tempo for the rest of the game. Scott scored with 5 minutes left at the half, completely crushing Norwalk’s hopes of a comeback.

This was an essential victory for Staples, making their record 8-1-1. “Norwalk beat us 1-0 last year and ended our season so we wanted revenge. It was the biggest game of the year for us and to pull out a 2-0 win on our home field is really important,” Scott said.

Key players in todays game were Leonard, Scott, and goalie Noah Schwaeber ’16.

The energy on the field was clear to those watching from the hill. There was a lot riding on this game for both teams, which resulted in very high pace and aggressive play by the boys. There were three cards given throughout the game, one to Staples defenseman George Kokkalis ‘14.

Schwaeber made several impressive saves throughout the game, maintaining the Wreckers’ shutout. With 10 minutes left of the game, Schwaeber made a particularly stellar save, in a high pressure situation with Norwalk trying to come back.

According to the team’s record, there is a lot of potential this season, and the outcome of this game shows that they’re a force to be reckoned with.
