The Wreckers Wrecked Warde

The Wreckers Wrecked Warde
Ellie Mann

Staples took Fairfield Warde High School by surprise on their home turf on Fri. night and won by twenty four points.

The Wreckers started off the game on a good note with Ross Whelan ’13 scoring a three-point shot.  Throughout the entire first quarter, Staples played good defense.  Peter Rankowitz ’13 made a beautiful steal and then a dunk.  Staples was in the lead by twelve points after the first quarter.

Throughout the second quarter, Staples maintained good ball control on offense and continued to be skillful defenders.  Staples’ sharp passes throughout the second quarter kept the Wreckers up nineteen points at the end of the third quarter.

With only four minutes left in the third quarter, Warde had only scored two points.  James Frusciante ’13 shocked the entire crowd when he was going to alley-oop the ball to Rankowitz and it ended up going right into the basket.  The score was 25-59 at the end of the third quarter with Staples in the lead.

Staples’ Varsity Coach, Colin Devine, brought in Todd Goldstein ’14, Andrew Felman ’14 and Nick Ward ’14 to finish up the game for the Wreckers.  Each one of them brought their impressive offensive and defensive skills to the court and ended the game with a twenty four point lead.

Rankowitz scored twenty four points for the Wreckers and Frusciante scored fourteen points.  Nicholas Cotto scored seventeen points for Warde.

Staples’ next game will be at home against Wilton High School on Feb. 4 at 7:00 p.m.
