Behind a 23 point performance from captain Luke Yeager ’11, the Staples Wreckers boys basketball team rolled to a 52-37 victory against Amity High School at home on Monday night. The Wreckers improved to 2-3 under head Coach Coline Devine in state tournament play and move on to play the Ridgefield Tigers on the road Wednesday.

While the visiting Amity Spartans hung around in the first quarter of the 2011 Class LL first round game, the Wreckers dominated the next three quarters as they allowed just one point in the second period. Despite only seeing leading scorer Gabe Seidman ’11 have six points, Staples had no problem containing the Spartans as 15 points from Mike Argosh ’12 and tough defense helped the Wreckers open up their lead in the second half.

Wednesday’s game against Ridgefield will be the third time these two teams play this year with the Tigers winning the first two games. Tune in to WWPT Wrecker Radio for the call of the game starting at 6:45 p.m.
