CoyneThe Staples football team dominated the homecoming game last Saturday September 26, beating Norwalk 42-6. Hundreds of fans showed up to support the Staples Wreckers on their home turf.

These fans saw quarterback Brandon Pacilio ’10 go 8-10, throwing for 176 yards including three touchdowns to wide receiver Brendan Rankowitz ’10. The defense would not be outdone as Jake Santora ‘10, Matt Kelly ‘10, and Dustin Dobbs ‘10 combined for four interceptions. The combination of electrifying offense and stifling defense proved to be too much for the Norwalk bears.

The Wreckers, clearly pumped up from the impressive fan support, scored early and often in the first quarter with a touchdown catch from Rankowitz and a touchdown run from Pacilio.

Rankowitz and Pacilio hooked up twice more, exemplifying Coach Petroccio’s new offense. Coach P retooled the Wrecker’s offense after an uncharacteristically weak season last year. This offense is designed to go to the air more often as was displayed on Saturday.

“It is an offense that is extremely difficult to stop and when you have the great players we have running it, it’s even harder to stop,” said Santora.

The Wreckers hope to continue its undefeated season next Saturday October 3 against the dynamic Ridgefield Tigers. Staples suffered a tough loss last season at Tiger Hollow in Ridgefield and will look to avenge that loss on Saturday at home.

Santora said of Ridgefield, “they are a good football team but they can be beat.”
