New hit singles top the charts this spring

New hit singles top the charts this spring

Ashton Dedona ’17

As topless jeep season approaches, everyone’s radio will be blasting with these new hit singles.

“HUMBLE” – Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar’s new hit “HUMBLE”, which was released on March 30, is the talk of the music industry right now. With lyrics discussing photoshop and other beauty standards of women, listeners have had controversial reactions. The song is accompanied by an original music video with artistic visuals and dynamic angles.  “I just added this song to my playlist and I haven’t stopped listening to it,” Nick Hooper ’17 said.

“Sign of the Times” – Harry Styles

Stepping away from the Harry Styles we knew as part of the former boy band “One Direction”, Styles made his own mark on the music industry when he announced his first ever solo single “Sign of the Times”, which was released April 6. Unlike any of his previous work with the band, “Sign of the Times” has a sensitive meaning, possibly relating to the end of One Direction as indicated when Styles sings, “they told me that the end is near, we gotta get away from here.” Although this may be causing fans to be emotional, many are anticipating a new album in the future.

“Heatstroke” – Calvin Harris feat. Young Thug, Pharrell Williams, Ariana Grande

This upbeat tune gives off positive vibes that puts a little dance in your step. Featuring musicians from many different genres of music, this single is not only unlike any of Calvin Harris’s other songs but rare for this many singers to come together.

“The One” – The Chainsmokers

The Chainsmokers, known for their electric dance music, have taken a new direction with their most recent single and vocalist Andrew Taggart’s, first ever solo, “The One”. “Usually I listen to the Chainsmokers when I want to dance, but this song has a completely different vibe. It’s a little more mellow,” Bailey Rizza ’17 said. The duo will be on tour through August, so make sure to grab some tickets to listen to their new hit.
