When my Home Access Center becomes everyone’s Home Access Center

When my Home Access Center becomes everyone’s Home Access Center

At first, the Home Access Center was an efficient tool that provided me with my current grades, but since then it has evolved into a punishing program that takes away phones, computers, and Friday night plans. As my parents have become more avidly involved in the Home Access Center, my esteem has crumbled and my freedom has been shattered.

I am going to be clear about this: Parent’s. Should. Not. Have. Access. To. Home. Access. Center.

I am aware that this is a controversial topic, but there are some major issues with Parents having easy access to their Children’s’ grades.

Lately the Home Access Center has not been associated with the 95’s on algebra tests, but more so the punishment that I find myself in when I get a 75 on a five point homework assignment.

It seems like my parents are more concerned about my grades than I am.

Even during school when my teacher uploads a grade onto the website, my mom instantly texts me saying “75? Should have studied more.”

It is as if my mom is hunting in the Savanna of her computer, waiting for the one grade below an eighty, which is the perfect time to strike.

Honestly, grades are enough stress as it is. The suspense of opening up the home access app and seeing your rising and falling GPA sends shivers down students’ spines. You know what students don’t need? They don’t need to come home to parents nagging them about the latest homework assignment or assessment.

Don’t get me wrong, Home Access Center is a huge advantage for me along with my peers. It allows you to see your most recent grade updates and calculated Grade Point Average with a few swipes of your fingertips.

However, it should be for my eyes only.

That is until final grades are out. Then my parents can go right ahead with taking away my phone, my computer and my Friday night plans.
