Cord Thursday

Cord Thursday

A phenomenon is happening in apparel every Thursday at Staples High School. It is called Cord (short for corduroy) Thursday.

“Every Thursday everyone who’s anyone wears their cords to school,” said Harry Rappaport ’10, who is a consistently active member in the cord community.

Cord Thursday is new to Staples this year.

“It began mid-second quarter, but it is said in myths that the Spartan warriors invented the corduroy on a Thursday and the legend has not stopped since,” said Rappaport, jokingly.

The truth though is that Cord Thursday was accidental. “To be honest, it started out coincidentally that we wore cords every Thursday…It must be in our DNA or something.”

Casey “Cola” Colasurdo was the pioneer student who brought the cord to Staples.

“Casey Colasurdo invented it but after we heckled a lot of people about it for a couple of weeks it became a more widely known thing,” said Rappaport ’10. “Casey Colasurdo started it and I publicized it…who does cord Thursday? Anyone worth naming really. But, we welcome everyone in the school to join the revolution.”

The logic behind Cord Thursday is in the cords. The question is therefore, “Why Cords?”

“I have to answer your question with one of my own…Why not?” said Rappaport ’10.
