As the temperature rises, it’s time to roll down your windows and blast some of summer’s newest hits. Summer is the season of upbeat lively music that is perfect for any barbeque or festivitie.

Discovering new artists to add to your summer playlist tends to never disappoint music lovers. Alexander O’Connor, known as Rex Orange County, is a new up-and-coming indie pop artist that has performed on stages worldwide such as Coachella. His relatable lyrics and chill beats create a unique sound that stands out from other music in the genre.

“I didn’t know who he was, but now he is my favorite artist,” Brooke Githens ’20 said. “I want to see him perform live so bad.” Eager fans will be able to see O’Connor perform at the Panorama music festival in New York on July 27.

Drake seems to always be releasing new music just in time for summer. His newest hits “Nice for What” and “God’s Plan” include lyrics that are known globally by fans.

“These two songs I constantly have on repeat,” Emma Rosenthal ’20 said. “They are so catchy that never get old.” These two hits have been on the top of the Billboard Top 100 for weeks and continue to climb the charts.

Austin Richard Post, known as Post Malone, recently released his hit album, “Beerbongs & Bentleys”, which has rose to the top of the charts. With over 5 songs on the Billboard Top 100 hit list, Malone’s fan base has dramatically increased. “I love his new sound and I think it is a really good album for the summer,” Josh Paul ‘20, a fan of Malone, said. Malone will be performing at the Governors Ball festival on June 1 for many fans like Paul.

With two hits rising on the Billboard Top 100, Kimetrius Foose, known as Lil Skies, has gained popularity early in his rap career. His rising hit “Red Roses” is climbing the Spotify viral 50 charts. “Not a lot of people know about Lil Skies, but he has some great music” Evan Vishno ’19 said. “I listen to his music all the time.”

Time to add these songs to your summer playlist and jam out with your friends. Make sure your summer is filled with these new hits.
