The Depth of Staples’ Television Diversity

During the Staples Class of 2011 graduation school principal, Mr. Dodig made a speech about how Staples is the home to people of different races, sexuality, and interests. Now, it seems, apparently tastes in TV shows as well. Out of 25 people interviewed there were a total of 17 different shows that people said they were anticipating most this fall. This proves once more that although different, everybody can be individual at Staples High School.

Out of the shows that people decided they were most looking forward to this Fall eight shows were in a tie for first each having only two votes each. So, in order to break the tie, the Top 5 were chosen based on what the TV ratings for each show. Based on these criteria the most anticipated shows for this Fall are as following:
1. The Office
2. Two and a Half Men
3. Family Guy
4. How I Met Your Mother
5. Gossip Girl
When the voters were questioned about why they chose these shows, to see a plethora of answers were given in response. The spectrum began from the simplicity of Jacob Chernok’13 saying he was anticipating The Office “cause its funny”. At the other end of the spectrum were more complex answers, like about the buzz surrounding the old version and new version of the role Charlie on Two and a Half Men and how it lured them in to watching the premiere.
Every response was unique to the person giving it. Those who were only interested in being entertained by TV were waiting for the new season of Jersey Shore, Tosh.0, and How I Met Your Mother. The students engaged in the big TV showsfollowing role changes were more inclined to watch Two and a Half Men and The Office. Others are just loyal to their favorite shows and continue watch Gossip Girl and Family Guy.
It has always been clear that Staples High School had people of all sorts of character. But, the depth at which that character varies isn’t short of inspiring. To have such diversity that it even affects the TV shows that the Staples community is most interested in proves something. And it doesn’t just prove it to this high school, but to the world. That no matter how different people’s TV choices may be, they can still walk down the same hallways side by side.

Zach Speed, Staff Writer
While his name often falls victim to cheesy clichés, it doesn’t fail to describe the best part of Zach Speed’s hockey game. The newly appointed Staples Varsity Hockey captain only started playing in 8th grade, but has worked on his game to become one of the best Wreckers out on the ice. Despite a tenure in journalism, another one of Speed’s interests, he has a difficult time picking between the two very different activities. “The hockey team is smaller and more intense,” he says. “But journalism is laid back, and the teachers really let you write about what you’re interested in.” Because he decided to fit both into his schedule during an already busy senior year, Speed’s life can be hectic. For example, for one of his Inklings’ articles last year, he was required to rewrite his article four times, despite having to deal with the standard workload of a high school junior. When asked what his favorite word was, he ironically hesitated. “Ummm… eloquence,” Speed said. “You can probably do something with that.”
