Choosing a college is not an easy process. It’s a fact.
It becomes especially difficult when the only information you know about a school is propaganda from the college itself.
“Come to our college because it is amazing!” is simply not enough.
Wesleyan University graduate Jordan Goldman was thinking just this when he came up with Unigo-a Web site where college students can share their opinions on college, uncensored and, to an extent, non-moderated.
Not only can college-goers post comments and stories about their experiences, but they can also film videos of places on campus such as dorms and dining halls.
When you visit the front page of unigo.com, you are presented with a nice, user-friendly layout that provides for easy research.
You can also look at the top 10 most searched colleges on Unigo, or you can read up on some tips to use when touring a campus.
Although the smaller and less-known colleges have relatively less information about them, larger universities such as Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass. have over 80 student reviews and 100 photos.
That is more than enough for choosing a college.
One of the most remarkable features of Unigo, although arguably the simplest, is the “College Rankings” box that appears for every school.
There, you can get the lowdown on topics such as “Political Activity,” “Sports Culture,” “Intellectual Life,” and more.
And, of course, all of the ratings come from the students.
If you are a risk taker and wish to base your choices simply on the colleges’ advertising, be my guest.
But if you want to do it the smart way, use Unigo to your advantage.
