"But before all these youths start burning bras outside Michael Rea’s office, they need to understand the reality of the situation: if town administrators don’t accomplish what our parents elected them to do and make the financial provisions necessary for this town, we’ll only be faced with an even greater budget crisis 525,600 minutes from now."

Hahaha, that was a great line Nitkin, quite clever. I agree with your point as well- it was so frustrating during all of this student activism when nobody really knew what they were talking about. Still, it was cool to see students getting involved and being proactive.

An excellent article that all students (and adults) should read. If we've learned anything from the recent tide of political discourse, it's that each citizen needs to take a wholistic, rational approach to governmental decision-making. Staples is producing students of whom it can be proud: those who will join together to take action, and those, like the author, who have the wits to evaluate the short and long-term consequences of those actions.

I applaud every word, but I fear that the prize will go to the contender who shouts the loudest, fights the hardest, and causes the most trouble… but not necessarily to the one whose argument makes any sense.

Both you and the RTM have struggled with this difficult issue in its complexity and have come to the same sober, rational, carefully considered choice. What frightens me is that your sanity will be drowned out by those who can grab the spotlight.

Thank you for being a voice of reason. I hope we can all find a way to quiet down and listen.
