Staples Varsity Field Hockey Lose 2-1 Yet Continue to Improve

Wednesday, Oct. 21, Staples Varsity Field Hockey played Norwalk in a high energy game, but were defeated 2-1.

In the first half Norwalk was able to bring the ball up the field multiple times but Lady Wreckers with a strong defense including goalie Jenn Hoets ’11, saved multiple shots. However, Norwalk managed to score a goal raising the score 1-0.

Lady Wreckers were determined to even out the score and with an assist from Kat Strage ’10, Jess Davis ’10 scored, tying it up.

Throughout the game Lady Wreckers had exceptional passing and communication, bringing the ball up the field as much as possible.

In the second half Norwalk scored yet again taking the lead. Nevertheless Lady Wreckers kept up their strength making shots left and right. Numerous times the ball missed the goal by an inch. In the end Norwalk took home the victory 2-1.

“Our passion showed,” said tri-captain Amanda Stewart ’10, “we never gave up.

The team worked together and has been improving throughout the season. Each game their communication and joint effort progresses.

“[Today’s game] was a big improvement from the last game,” said Caroline Kearney ’12.

“Today I realized we’ve come a long way,” said coach Cowburn, “our energy was really good.”

With a great season already underway the Varsity Field Hockey team is sure to finish it out strong.
