News-Gathering Ethics Policy

Inklings News makes every attempt to cover the news with accuracy, honesty and integrity. All members of our staff are dedicated to upholding the reputation of our newspaper, website and social media platforms. We maintain high standards in order to protect our ethical standing.

Prior to publication, all articles are meticulously reviewed by our section editors, Managing Editors, Editors-in-Chief and advisers. We make the greatest attempt to utilize credible sources and we strive to found all articles in fact.

When other sources, such as articles, photographs and graphics are employed to supplement an article, we obtain permission and give credit to the author or website it is derived from. Upon coming across something that is incorrectly attributed or lacks an attribution, please contact us at inklingsnews@westportps.org..

When photographs are staged, they are labeled with “photo dramatization” to avoid misinterpretation.

Quotations are not provided out of context and we do not aim to create a misleading impression of the speaker. If you have any questions regarding the accuracy of a quote, we encourage you to reach out to us through the “corrections” form.

All interviews conducted by our writers are only recorded with the permission and consent of the person interviewed. Any reporter that promises confidentiality to a source must not violate that pledge.

We are sensitive to personal values. Profanity and other types of offensive language are only incorporated into an article when absolutely necessary.

If you have any questions regarding our ethics policy, you are welcome to contact us at inklingsnews@westportps.org.
